Message being send to all users with identical name

Description

I have two users

  1. John Smith (jsmith)
  2. John Newman (john)

Issue with message - if i select Send To (Username or Friend’s Name) and insert a common name like john it will show a result for all John in the the database, I then select the specific John Smith I want to send a message to It shows as sent to that person however, it ends up sending it also to the John Newman.

P.S: A textbox Send To (Username or Friend’s Name) is not getting clear after selecting name from autocomplete suggestion, it ends up sending it also to the username john.

Hi @DJPaul

Sorry, I forgot to check with default Twenty Sixteen theme and to specify that it was happening with my theme. I confirm that it is not a problem in default theme e.g Twenty Sixteen.
