(In [4926]) Remove blank line from the bottom of bp-loader.php to avoid possible server errors. Fixes #3437. Props ipstenu

It only happened on an upgrade ;) When you do a Fresh Install it properly tells you 'Moron! No worky!'

What's weird is that when I download 1.5-beta1 (which I already had and it works!) it TOO had a blank line at the bottom. So ... I have no idea.

Yeah, the blank line was in the distribution code. It's not strictly speaking supposed to be there, but the fact that it crashed your installation means that your server is configured in a very finicky way. In any case, it's been fixed in the trunk.
