Private message inbox auto-purging or limits

I've seen a few mom-and-pop social networks have limits on inboxes for user convenience and to eliminate clutter/burden on the server.

For example, one says "Messages will be automatically deleted after 14 days unless saved, and you are limited to 200 saved messages."

Unless a user is prudent with their inbox there is the chance inboxes could get cluttered and strain the server load.

This sounds like plugin material, as some people may not want limits.
