Description
I am finding discussion involvement is stalling due to the fact that members cannot opt to receive the following types of notifications:
For a group you are a member of:
- a new forum topic is created
- a member posts to a topic you created
- a member posts to a topic you have posted on
One issue is a tad thorny: the case where a member creates a topic in a group you are a member of. you receive an email notifying you of this topic. Receiving all future posts on this topic should probably be opt in (or perhaps default to off unless you either opt in or comment yourself - in which case you'd default to all subsequent email notifications unless you opt out)

This is on the roadmap for 1.3+.

I don't think this is going to make it for 1.3. It'd have to be part of a bigger discussion about how extensive the core notifications should be, as opposed to the several plugins available to enhance notifications.

There is a popular plugin that handles this pretty well http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-email-subscription/ Currently the plugin is pretty regularly maintained. In light of this, I don't see a pressing argument for including it in BP core.
