activity-stream to automatically show new posts

currently, I need to hit "Refresh Browser" in order to load and see new posts within the activity stream.

Can you make something like the following examples, so that new posts get automatically loaded and therefore I do not have to hit "Refresh Browser" all the time:

​http://answers.polldaddy.com

I like the way that the new twitter.com does it - new tweets load when you get to the bottom of the page.

A bit too much work for 1.3, sadly.

The new Twitter also displays a notice when new tweets are available at the top of feed. It would be great in BP, instead of having to manually refresh the page / click on the Activity Stream tab. Perhaps it'd just automatically refresh ever X seconds as set in Admin backend, so we could set it depending on what our server is capable of. I know SocialEngine does this as well ("Update Frequency:")
