Send Invites / gonna be stucked at this point

Reported by: erich73's profile erich73 Owned by:

Description

people who will create a group, they will be stuck at this point here: (see Screenshot attached)

They do not have any friends yet at the website, so how to invite their real friends which they have
stored in their "MS Outlook" or at any other mail-program ?

Could you please add a few simple fields at which the Group-Admin can "invite friends" by
entering the "e-mail address" of friends he has on file ?

This issue should not be that complicated to solve:
nearly every website is providing something like "recommend to a friend" feature.

  • Keywords plugin added
  • Milestone changed from 1.2 to Future Release
  • Priority changed from major to minor

No chance of something like this making 1.2. Best implemented as a plugin to start with.

Hi Paul,

1)
I do agree that uploading of e-mail-adresses from your mail-program like MS-Outlook, etc. should come from third-party-plugin-developers.

2)
But giving a few fields at which the Group-Admin is able to enter a few mail-addresses should be definitely in core. I am talking about 5 to 10 fields at which the Group-Admin simply manually enters e-mail-addresses of people he knows in order to invite them to his group.

3)
Please look at the Screenshot attached. This is a MAJOR blocking-point.

There is a plugin available where you can "Invite Anyone" instead of only your friends. Thats a good plugin solution, but i think at least a simple field where members could "invite friends" by entering the "e-mail address" should be in the core, because it would definitely improve usabilty and encourage more people to aggregate in groups.

@Andy,

the Plugin from Boone might solve this issue:

Could you put this plugin into core ?

This has been a major obstacle for me since forever! I tried the bp-invitefriends plugin, not the one mentioned here, and it could do this, but the message was not customizable. I don't know enough to make the input field I added to the form be able to be used by the send funciton, but this functionality really needs to be included by either a plugin or in core. As well, we need the ability to add a custom message that will be sent. Tracking the invitations is not all that important, but perhaps adding or creating a subscription list with invited non-members would be appropriate such that when the invitee receives the email they also get the option to opt out of future invitations. This should be able to done or tracked site-wide so that no one will be able to send another invite from the website if the invitee does not want to receive invitations or anything from this domain, etc. Just good email etiquette.

  • Component set to Core

I think the newest version of the Invite Anyone plugin already addresses the issues listed in this ticket.

Can anyone confirm?
