I haven't found anything on this and I don't know if it's suppose to do what is does but if you add Friends into the function to remove that nav item it also removes the Blogs link as well. If you add Blogs into it, it just removes the Blogs link. Just thought I'd let ya know ...

This may or may not be relevant looking at changes to bp_get_displayed_user_nav, which only uses bp_nav in the trunk.
