Mail acticity-icon for private messaging

Description

A nice feature to the private messaging would be the ability to see if the receiver has read the mail/private message. Alot of communities has this small feature implemented. You would be able to see when your private message has been read and when to expect a reply from the receiver. A big nice-to-know thing.

It could be visualised as a small open/closed letter-icon. When the private message has been read by the receiver it would be the open letter-icon otherwise it could be the closed letter-icon.

The icon could eventually be placed to the left of the mail subject text.

Hope it's possible.

Seems like plugin material to me as this could be a privacy issue for some sites.

This would definitely be possible, but I'm with cnorris23 that it shouldn't be in the core of BP for privacy reasons. If a plugin needs additional hooks to make it happen, I'm happy to oblige.
