#6696 closed enhancement (maybelater)
@mention notification link behaviour
Reported by: | style960 | Owned by:

Milestone: | Priority: | normal
Severity: | normal | Version: | 2.3.3 |
Component: | Toolbar & Notifications | Keywords: | trac-tidy-2018 |

Description
When a notification is generated for an @mention, the link will direct to:
http://mysite.com/members/<username>/activity/mentions/
The email sent to the user for the same notification will contain a link to:
http://mysite.com/activity/p/<number>/
I would suggest the email link be used 'on-site' - it's more intuitive when there are multiple pending notifications. It also provides a better experience on mobile where a user will likely have to scroll down to see the @mention using the current link - cleaner when linking directly to the activity itself.

We're closing this ticket because it has not received any contribution or comments for at least two years. We have decided that it is better to close tickets that are good ideas, which have not gotten (or are unlikely to get) contributions, rather than keep things open indefinitely. This will help us share a more realistic roadmap for BuddyPress with you.
Everyone very much appreciates the time and effort that you spent sharing your idea with us. On behalf of the entire BuddyPress team, thank you.
If you feel strongly that this enhancement should still be added to BuddyPress, and you are able to contribute effort towards it, we encourage you to re-open the ticket, or start a discussion about it in our Slack channel. Please consider that time has proven that good ideas without contributions do not get built.

Yes. But I think the notifications currently group the same type of notification together (so it'd be "4 new messages" etc) which is probably why this goes to the page listing them all. I have seen discussions around the place where we want to change the behaviour of the notification items like this -- maybe someone will volunteer to take a look at it for 2.5 -- I think this will have to wait until then.
Good suggestion, and thanks for making it @style960! (I think this is your fourth bug report for BuddyPress! Thanks!)
