Avatar upload in less steps

Description

Is there a reason members need to click on "upload" after choosing a file from their computer's hard drive?

This seems an extra and unnecessary step.

Perhaps a more streamlined approach would be for the file to upload automatically after the user has selected a photo from their hard drive.

Once upload is complete, the file cropping stage can occur.

Avatar upload screen showing the choose file and upload buttons

  • Milestone changed from Awaiting Review to Future Release

The image avatar handling in general needs a lot of work in a lot of areas. If we got a patch that submitted the form once a file was picked, I'm pretty sure we'd consider including it based on how well it worked in practice, but this isn't something that the core team will be able to build for the foreseeable future.

Yes I suppose the entire avatar handling process could be improved. This ticket is probably an itch not worth scratching as it would be taken care of by a bigger project somewhere down the line.

#4132 might help to *some* extent.

@henrywright is this still generally uptodate, from what you can tell? Or is it redundant at this point?

I think we're now at that point "down the line" where this is resolved. The avatar upload process is sound. I think this can be closed.

  • Milestone Future Release deleted
  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

Closing on initiative and evolution of the project.
