Avatar image quality after cropping

Description
Hi,
I noticed that the avatar image loses quality after cropping it. Even the preview is sharper although this image is bigger. Please take a look at the following screenshot and compare the two pictures (left: preview, right: final image) on the bottom of the image.

Do you have an idea how I could increase the image quality of the avatars?

Not really a bug in BuddyPress; the quality relied on settings in WordPress. However, in BuddyPress 1.6.2 on WordPress 3.5, we've updated it so that the maximum image quality is used, and alongside WP's media API improvements, hopefully things will be better now.
