Before upgrading to BuddyPress 1.6, were you using the BuddyBar or the WordPress Toolbar?

During the upgrade, did you check the box that asked whether you wanted to continue using the BuddyBar, or did you leave it unchecked so that you were upgraded to the WP bar?

My guess is that you were upgraded unwittingly to the WP Toolbar, and that you also have your WP installation configured such that it's not visible from the front-end for logged-in or logged-out users. Visit the following links:

  • /wp-admin/profile.php - Is "Show Toolbar when viewing site" checked?
  • /wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-settings - Is "Show the Toolbar for logged out users?" checked?

Using these settings, you should be able to configure the toolbar just how you want it. If you need to go back to the BuddyBar, see the bottom of http://codex.buddypress.org/releases/version-1-6/upgrading-to-1-6/.

Feel free to reopen this ticket if your issues comes from a genuine bug in BuddyPress.
