Description
The Friends feature is not intuitive and really does not do anything in the current version of BP. Would like to see an Admin Option to be able to turn it off. I am getting numerous questions from our user community on what it does and why it does not do anything. It would be much better if the feature was not present until it had utility.
Thanks for considering.

Ok, thanks @DJPaul. Looking forward to seeing how it eventually gets rolled out and works in a future release.

FYI: This is already in BuddyPress, and has been for years. Go to your Components Dashboard panel screen and disable Friends.

Thanks @boonebgorges -- I disabled already.
My follow-on comment was that I am anxious to see when the feature gets rolled-out with some utility and usefulness. At the present time, Friends does nothing more than build a list of "My Friends" on the Members Directory. It does nothing more than that.

Ah, I thought by "the feature" you meant "the button to disable Friends", not Friends itself. Yes, there are more plans in the works. One of them has to do with profile field visibility in BP 1.6: you can limit visibility of a given profile field to your friends only.

That sounds cool @boonebgorges. Hopefully in the future we can see enhancements like:
(1) see the last post a "Friend" made when I go to the "My Friends" link in Members Directory
(2) receive an email notice whenever one of my "Friends" makes a post
(3) be able to shoot a broadcast email to all my "Friends"
(4) see a counter showing how many "Friends" each of "My Friends" have made
(5) and so on...
If you don't want to use the Friends component, just go to Settings > BuddyPress > Components in wp-admin and disable the "Friend Connections" component.
