Changeset 4971 needs to be able to add custom messages

This may not be the right place, but an enhancement to Changeset 4971, which Boone announced ​here, needs to be able to save an action or something which allows for a customized activity record other than "John wrote a new post on the site John's Books".

Not all custom post types are posts (they could be sermons, products, wikis, etc) and having a built-in common sense way of modifying that, without having to create a large code snippet ​like this for each cpt would be helpful. With CPTs becoming more and more common, having straightforward support would be a welcome improvement.
