The message is already in BP (
bp_core_update_message()).I've added a section to the Upgrade page in the Codex about BP 1.5 http://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/upgrading-buddypress/, which links to its own 1.5 upgrade advice page (which I just spent 10 minutes on) http://codex.buddypress.org/releases/upgrading-to-buddypress-1-5/
Please please please chip in on the Codex, providing whatever information you think will be helpful for folks upgrading. Marking this ticket as closed, because no more work is necessary in BP itself.
