While the header gradient is a visual improvement, the majority of theme designers will probably create a child theme and change the background anyway. And we also offer the WP admin the option of changing the background via "Appearance > Header".
These options actually make the header gradient code redundant when applied and the seven or so lines of background gradient compatibility would be for naught (trivial, I know).
For these reasons, I would actually like to see the header background revert back to a solid color.
I'd like to get some feedback from others about this (namely theme designers).
I don't mind if the gradient sticks; I'm just thinking from the standpoint of redundancy.

I like the gradient. I think it should stay, and I dont think that the little bit of code is that big of a deal. It's a subtle change and even though designers are going to overwrite it I think as a starting point it looks good.

Personally gradient, block colour - neither matters to me as a theme designer as if I don't want them I will override them. In fact rather than override what most like me would do is have their own styling totally aside from the theme and don't even link it in.
I kind of +1 the 'showcase' and that's the way I kind of see the theme really as a designer. I also like the idea it uses different CSS stuff that will expose more 'standard' (for want of a nicer word) users to non image gradients and other things. I'd actually really like to see other 'showcase' stuff going on to really push it a little maybe even with using something like Modernizr (but that is a whole barrel of happy monkeys:)).

- Resolution set to wontfix
- Status changed from new to closed
Header gradient is not being removed.
I guess I wouldn't mind hearing from theme devs as well, but I'm thinking that the redundancy is more than outweighed by the fact that the gradient is a sort a showcase for what bp-default can look like in modern browsers. So I vote wontfix on this ticket.
