while the current design of BP.org is a but strange, there is actually a very good, logic and intuitive design of the "mention this user" post-box at the website of BP.org

When you click on a specific user-avatar, you immediately see the post-box to send a public message to this user.

Meaning the post-box which says "Post something to username...."

This feature should be build into BuddyPress-Core-Code as well.
As this improves communication of users because the post-box to get in touch with a certain user is visible immediately.

As per current design of BuddyPress, this post-box to contact a certain user is hidden within the buttom "mention this user", which is not intuitive at all.

I guess this could be changed quite quickly in the Core-Code and would improve BP in terms of usability and enhance communication within the stream.

I was looking at this to see what the poster wanted...
Open BuddPress.org --> Click on any user --> SEE UPDATE STATUS box that states "Post something to user" in the UPDATE status box ON the MEMBER PAGE.
Default-Theme works this way ---> Open Theme --> Click on Member Page/USER --> SEE a PROFILE with a BOX that states "MENTION this USER".

This would be very cool and useful (I would use it), but seems like THEME/PLUGIN related... For Instance CD AVATAR POPUP allows you to mention a user quickly by the pop-up itself (Click on a user/or hover over -then click on @user, etc.)

Just my thoughts.

I'm not quite sure what is being proposed in this ticket; it sounds like this behaviour is in BP Default already.

In an older rendition of BP.org, there was a FB wall-like functionality where a logged-in user could post something directly on a displayed user's page.

When that post was made, it would prefix the @username to mention the displayed user.

Definitely plugin-territory and I believe Brajesh already created such a plugin.
