Follow Anything Functionality

Please provide an API with the Follow function so that developers can add Follow functionality to their plugins for various additional buddypress components.

Following can be expanded beyond just member activity. Members can follow blogs, posts, blog categories and tags, discussion forums, groups, galleries, events, and anything else that developers can come up with.

Items could have a count of followers and there could be "most followed _" widgets.

This would give members an easy, intuitive way to keep track of everything they care about within a community.

This seems to be a logic feature that would be highly flexible and extremely useful for any much used network.

I agree that this would be a pretty cool feature, but given that user following only exists in a plugin at the moment, I think it makes sense that this functionality would happen in a plugin as well. If any additional hooks are needed in core in order to make it happen, please submit a separate ticket.
