Notifications Count Wrong (and stays that way)

In the bar at the top of the page, it says "Notifications [2]" but when I hover over it there is only 1 friendship accepted request noted.

Now if I click on this friendship accepted notification, nothing changes. I still have "Notification [2]" and the accepted friendship note. No way to get rid of it so far as I see.

This count was already wrong with BP 1.2.2.1 and I upgraded to BP 1.2.3 but that didn't solve the problem.

I think I may have the reason:

Maybe this happens when a notification is generated by a user who is later marked as spam by an admin. The notifications should go away when users are marked as spam. Also when marked as spam directly in the user list. (This is the only place I can stay on top of the hundreds of spammers registering every day on my site.)

We've seen a few posts on the forums about the notification count not clearing; please would someone look into this.

Marking the user as spam cleared my "xxx accepted your friend invitation". BP 1.2 branch, WP trunk.

I believe this is fixed in the 1.2 branch.
