enhancement-idea:

at the homepage, we do have the "Recently Active Member Avatars".

idea:
when hovering over the User-Avatars, then show the latest "Activity-Message" (Status-Message) of that user.

Same as at this website (just hoover over the user-images):

Could be too database intensive to fetch the activity for all the users.

As Paul says, this might be a bit on the db-intensive side for inclusion in the default theme. Would make for a neat feature in a plugin or a custom theme, though.
