Mini activity status updates are not "mini" in IE8

Description

Mini activity status updates don't appear as compact in IE8 as they do in FF3.x.

Firebug says they are 35px in height in Firefox.
IE8 developer tools say they are 73px in height.

I don't see anything obviously wrong with the CSS.

Could you describe where this is occurring, or even better a screenshot, so I can fix it. :)

The screenshot is from the main activity page. I was thinking this might be due to a extra white space. I believe IE used to have issues with extra whitespace between certain HTML tags.
